The legendary New York television anchor team of Chuck Scarborough and Sue Simmons is now a memory. For the past 32 & 1/2 years, Chuck & Sue arrived in our homes at 11pm on WNBC, Channel 4. I had the privilege of working as a news writer for these legendary broadcasters back in the ’90s.
Simmons was also the main anchor for the LIVE AT FIVE newscast which took solid ratings command of the NY airwaves from the early 80’s to the mid-90’s. Last Friday night’s 11:00pm newscast was her final broadcast at WNBC.
To quote her former co-anchor (and now NBC Today show anchor) Matt Lauer, “She’s got heart and class!”
SUE: New York will miss you at 11pm, and we won’t say “Goodbye”, rather it’s “See you later!”
Here’s a clip of Sue Simmons’ final broadcast and the News 4 New York tribute to her… enjoy!
